Welcome to our first newsletter of 2021!

Firstly, we hope you enjoyed the festive period as much as possible. Secondly, following the Prime Minister's announcement earlier this week, playing golf is no longer permitted in England. We will endeavour to keep you updated with the latest news throughout the current lockdown, as well as give you a sneak peek at some exciting products that will be available to purchase once we're allowed to reopen.

Golf on Tour

A look ahead at what's to come...

2020 was a year like no other, both in golf and in the world as a whole. However, with 2021 now upon us, let’s take a look at some of the events for us golf fans to get excited about this year…

Firstly, The Masters returns to its April date, just five months on from Dustin Johnson’s record-breaking win back in November. This is followed by three more Majors in the men's game and five in the women's, including the one that got away in 2020: The Open Championship!

To top it all off, we have both the Ryder Cup and Solheim Cup in the same month - September. Let’s hope Team Europe are partying twice this September! Oh, and let's not forget about the Olympics!

Pro's news

What a start to 2021

A nice covering of Snow to start off the year... no golf... Isolation for me, luckily tested negative! 10 days indoors was so frustrating and then good old Boris announces Lockdown again. The only plus side is a vaccine, fingers crossed the vaccine helps towards a little bit of normality.

The one massive plus for our sport is we will again come out stronger with more people wanting to get involved, we need to be on the ball with the right packages to create new members who buy into the club, use all the facilities when we reopen.

I forgot to mention the other week coming to play in the competition was probably the most drunk I have ever seen anybody turn up to play golf! However, looking at when we will be released from the shackles of the virus there will be one hell of a party and I'm guessing the member, who I won't name, will have some serious competition on retaining his title.

My first Pro's comp after the restrictions will be welcomed with some alcoholic beverages and nibbles for all members to indulge and possibly have one too many but who cares we will need a big party!

What will be new in-store for 2021

I was planning on most of the new hardware products to be in store mid Feb but with the latest lockdown, it's now going to be early March.

New products will include the Callaway Epic and Rogue ranges with different price points, the New Taylormade SIM 2 collection, PING's new G425 range and Wilson Staffs popular D9 rocket launch iron probably the longest iron on the market.

All of these companies will come and hold Demo days for you to come and try in the Yorkshire Golf Simulator using the latest technology with the Foresight GC quad.

I understand the majority of these products are expensive so with that in mind, I'm now registered with Hitachi Finance with which I can offer with a minimum spend of £500...10 months interest free credit, for more information ask in store.

As for clothing and footwear adidas will be prominent with a little covering of Nike, both bringing out some interesting garments around the time of the majors.

Hopefully the weather will be good and we may all look the part at least... My favourite saying being 'all the gear no idea'... I count myself in that statement too lol!

While we are in lockdown it's a great time to check your equipment, are those grips a little shiny or have you started to see the metal shaft through the wearing grip...

Coaching news

What're your plans and aims for 2021

This time off will give you chance to have a think about your golf and what targets you want to achieve, targets can be anything from handicap reduction to mentally improving your game so many areas of the game to work on, it's also understanding your weaknesses and spending time trying to make them stronger, we all seem to keep practicing our strengths and hide away from the weaker parts of our game.

What I want you to do is explain to me one part of your game you struggle with and I'll give you a drill (not a Black and Decker...) to work on indoors or outside in the garden during lockdown that will hopefully help... No sarcastic replies please.

Lockdown Draws 2021

Back again!

I really thought we had finished doing these draws and moving into the new year with a lot brighter future...

I've decided to run a weekly lockdown draw which will start Monday to Friday and I will draw live on a Saturday tea time... cost will be £2 per number or 3 numbers for £5, all prize money collected will be paid out in Pro Shop credits...members who don't do internet banking and want to have a go just let me know and I will collect monies owed when we get back going again at the club...

I will email, What's App you all when the draw starts unfortunately I can't attach the draw video to the email as normally too big a file so only those on the club What's App channels will see the live draw...

Competition news

Pro's Competition results Saturday 27th December

Firstly I would like to apologise for the delay on the results but a bit of isolation hasn't helped me get them as quick as I would have liked.

Another competition with some great scoring and three pairs all tied at the top with 42 points (10 under par), I think it's going to take a while for all these new handicaps to settle down, some of our more frustrated golfers at the club are going to have to except some of these scores are going to be more frequent over the next 12 months.

Anyway moving on to the results and winners.

In first place with a better back eight holes were Dave Whitaker and Paul Morton 42 points, in second was Paul Main and Steve Halloran beating Mark Heald and Craig Russell on the best back six holes who finished third.

Something to work towards

Come rain or shine, golfers never need an excuse to dust off the cobwebs and get onto the course. So, with lots of golf to (hopefully) look forward to in 2021, there's no better time to conjure up some golf-based resolutions for the year ahead.

Making resolutions

You may have decided you’d like to reduce the number of three-putts you have each round (don't we all!) or to get less frustrated when you hit a bad shot. Whatever your resolutions are, we're here to help in any way possible.

Walking in a winter wonderland

Long walks are as much a part of the festive season as eating too much turkey and dozing on the sofa afterwards. Greg Norman once said ‘Happiness is a long walk with a putter’. Now, it would be a little odd to take your putter on a festive walk, but one thing you'll definitely need is a good jacket!
