Competition Round-Up
A very busy week of competitive golf, starting with The Colin Ainsworth, the golf boom was taking its effect with all tee times sold meaning there was 124 golfers in total out on the course. Weather and course set up was difficult and this proved in the scoring. Four scores tied on 41 points won by a pair from Low Laithes Nigel Harrison and Andrew Firth, beating 3 HHGC Pairs starting with the usual bridesmaid our Secretary Ken Woolford and his partner Billy Hunter, followed by the Colquhoun's Derek and Scott with Chris Smith and David Townend finishing 4th with the worst back nine of all four pairings.
Over the weekend we had the Titus 'John' Newsome Trophy an apt name for our most famous and generous not! Past captains... Sorry John had to add you in.
The scoring was definitely easy for one of our newest members James Byrne, winning by 7 shots with an outrageous score of 57 nett. Losing 4 shots off his handicap at present, however, I'm feeling a couple more coming off once the handicap committee catch up! Well done JB not many members have shot under nett 60 in their golfing careers a great achievement.
Runner up was another new member and again this name will be mentioned at the next handicap meeting Michael Smith with a nett 64, well done Michael.
On Saturday afternoon the club held the Men's & Ladies past Captain's competitions hosted by Chris Fletcher and Judi Brooke. Winning the Men's competition was Alister Williams with 37 points beating Mark Whelan on the back nine and winning the ladies was Gillian Littlewood with a score of 36 points.
