A busy weekend... The weekend started for me with the Married & Family Foursomes on Saturday. Some of the participants had got caught in the downpour of rain whilst golfing during the day, so a little encouragement to go back out there was much needed. Thankfully, the evening weather stayed dry albeit a little cool. A few interesting comments and stories were told upon their return to the clubhouse and the comp is now renamed the Family Fallouts. Love and Harmony were soon restored over a few slices of mucky fat, pork pie and a drink. Congratulations to the winners: Married – Roy & June Elliott. Families – 1st Place – David & John Whittington. 2nd Place –Reece & Ollie Broadbent.
Saturday evening quickly merged into Sunday and the Mixed Open Invitation. It was great to welcome Tom & Bessie Watkinson’s son & daughter in law, Christine and David and our sponsors Graham & Jane Atkinson of Walter Dawson Accountants. A greensome format with a shotgun start at 1pm saw twenty mixed pairs taking part. A successful afternoon of golf followed by a warm and bubbly atmosphere in the club afterwards. The comment of the day has to go to my partner Mark. Whilst standing over my drive on the 18th to take the second shot Mark asked “where is the green” quick response from Debbie Spendler “same place as it was when you played it an hour and a half ago”. No quick redesign of the course. The results for the Mixed as follows: Ladies Nearest the Pin – Miss Jane Tingle. Gents Nearest the Pin – Mr Steven Lansdale. 1st Place – HHGC – Mrs Debbie Spendler & Mr Joe Ratcliffe – nett 66.5. 2nd Place - HHGC – Mrs Margaret Powell & Mr Chris Smith – nett 6. 3rd Place – HHGC – Mr David Whittington & South Bradford Ms D Moody – nett 67.
Our thanks are extended to the Watkinson family who has purchased & donated to the Club a new trophy in respect of the Mixed Open. The Trophy was and will continue to be presented in memory of Tom & Bessie. David & Christine have both asked me to pass on their thanks to all involved in the organisation of Sunday’s comp. Finally, my sincere thanks to everyone who took part in the weekend’s events and to those who helped me in the organisation of the comps. The raffle raised £ 94 which will be given to Crohn’s & Colitis UK. Your generosity and continued support are very much appreciated. Happy golfing. Judi
