Competition news

The in-form players impress yet again at the George Brooke Trophy...

Well done to Steve ‘Seve’ Dodsworth and partner Joe Ratcliffe on winning the George Brooke Trophy with a great score of 60. Both golfers are in fantastic form at the minute and I’m sure there’s still more to come from both of them before the season ends.

Seve’s birdie - birdie finish was vital as they only won by one shot beating the Broadbent brothers and Paul Eddings and Ian Bradford with 61’s.

It was great to see that four of my pupils were in the top three pairings.

Ladies news

Run Rabbit Run…

The annual Rabbits vs. Ladies match took place on Thursday. A good fun competition with lots of banter and from some members some rather nice golf.

In the words of Billy Pearce I am “chuffed” to announce that the Ladies won this year. Steve Halloran has poached two of our ladies, they will be seen playing in the Rabbits team next year. I think I heard Steve Farrar offering his congratulations (through gritted teeth) to a certain lady who just happened to pop in a long putt, Colin the Copper Whiteley appeared to be a little side-tracked with thoughts of Whitby and CONGU rules at the forefront of his mind whilst Trevor Hooley came into his own when he took on the task of collecting the pie and pea money. An evening enjoyed by all who took part and played in a great spirit. Thank you gents, same time, same place next year.

First place - Madeline Armitage (30 points) and in second place - Julie Oates – 30 points.

Maddy just slipped into first with a better back nine. Well done ladies. Now it's all systems go for the weekend and last Bank Holiday of the summer.

Fed Ex Tour Championship

What a week for the Finale of the PGA Tour for 2019, who will walk away with the title and 15 million dollars?

A new format takes place with all 30 players starting with different totals, the leader Justin Thomas starts at 10 under for the week and the players in 26th to 30th start at level par, would be interesting if one of these players can win from 10 behind at the start...

Over the last few weeks I have run a draw for each of the three events, I hope all the members who have entered it have had some fun and congratulations to those who have won so far. Keep your eye on the golf this weekend I’m sure we are in for an exciting finish.

The most beautiful shot in golf

If we were to ask you this question what would you say? We think some of you would say the ‘Tiger stinger’ but a good proportion would say the pitch shot that takes a couple of bounces before stopping to a halt. It looks sensational but how on earth do you play it?

The key to making this shot is simple – your wedges. Yes, technique is key and is certainly something we can talk you through during a lesson but without the correct equipment you stand no chance.
