A message from your Lady Captain... My heart sank a little as I opened the curtains on Saturday morning and looked out at a very wet and rainy Hanging Heaton. I am not sure about golf, I think we should all invest in flippers and a snorkel. Not the best weather for Invitation weekend. However, I popped into the club on Saturday lunchtime to offer my help and I have to say although very wet our members and their guests seemed to be in good spirits. With Sonia as good as ever providing much-needed refreshments.
We welcomed soloist Sadie to the club on Saturday evening. Three sets, three costume changes, a great selection of songs and a fantastic voice, well worth the ticket price of £5. My work colleague, Nigel, made a trip over to Preston on Tuesday to play in the Trilby Tour. Unfortunately, he just lost out on getting through to the final. I understand from both Nigel and my Scottish pal Sammy that the experience of this tournament was well worth the entry fee. Maybe one for more of our gents to look into for next year. Due to the Invitation weekend, we ladies did not have a comp. We are back out there this weekend in respect of the second card of the Lowfield Cup & the Dorothy Tingle prize. I am praying for the weather to change and for the sun to come out. With a little bit of luck, it will then stay dry for the following week when our ladies play the Past Captains comp. Whilst in the mode of “Invitation” the poster for the mixed Invitation in September will soon be in place in the hallway. Always enjoyed by everyone taking part. Ladies get planning, grab a guest (or maybe invite is a better word) and let’s fill all the tees. Happy golfing. Judi B
