Competition news

Ossett Tyre House Am-Am

The Ossett Tyre House Am-Am was another great event; a massive thanks to Ken and Stuart Clarke for their continued support of this Am-Am. The course was in good condition yet again, with the course getting plenty of compliments.

We had good support from outside visiting teams 13 fourballs in total.

The winners were from a group of early starters and one of the older combined age teams of Peter Watson, Martin Broadbent, Peter Goodall and Adrian Harding with a team total of 90 points.

The Club Captain brought in a couple of bandits to help claim first prize in Division one, (only joking Chris) the team consisted of himself, Mick Sykes, R Sidle and D Fozard...

The Division two winners were a team from Willow Valley and regular visitors at HHGC, scoring 88 points team members Andy Dobson, Darryl Wright, Andy Hallas and Shaun Moyser.

Jubilee Cup

This weekend was the Jubilee Cup, and there were some great scoring to be had. Winning with a score of 61 was Stewart Horner, beating my good friend Steve Shaw by one-shot who also made a bogey six at the last looks like it’s a costly last hole.

29 members had scores on level-par or lower out of 94 scores recorded that’s a very strong percentage and combined with the Am-Am looks like the next handicap committee meeting will be a busy one.

Lady Captains' report

The ladies played the second card of the Kingsway Cup this week alongside the Julie Oates Prize.

Congratulations to Margaret, lovely to have the success of winning both.

I popped into the club to on Friday evening to offer a little bit of support to the Ossett Tyre House golfers.
A jovial & good humoured presentation of the prizes was enjoyed by all. Thankfully, the weather was reasonably kind for the event as it was for the weekend.

Apparently I was noted by my absence on Sunday, so a promise to you all that I will be there this week. I am sure that our handicap secretary will be delighted to know that normal service (and quips) will resume.

Invitation Weekend

The above competition is filling up nicely but there are still plenty of spaces in the afternoons on both days, and only few times left in the morning. The cost is £20 per pair or £30 if you enter both days, book the available times in the Pro Shop.

On the Saturday, the Lady Captain has organised an evening with Sadie, a female artist who sings songs from the 50s through the decades. I’m sure this will be a good night and you could always invite your guests for the weekend...tickets are £5 per person.

The PGA draw results

To top off the weekend, Brooks Koepka made Bethpage Back look like he was playing at Spring Mill. His power and accuracy was outrageous and broke all records over the first couple of days to lead by seven shots. There were some big names that missed the cut such as; Tiger Woods, Sergio Garcia, Bryson Dechambeau.

On Sunday evening, the back-nine got tense with Dustin Johnson making a charge, and Brooks making a few errors but in the end got over the line to win for back-to-back wins again creating history by holding two Major trophies back-to-back. The U.S. Open is next - could he win three on the bounce?

Winning The PGA Championship members draw was Mark Whelan with a score of 26 points in total. The winners list is attached below, thanks to all members who supported this draw. The U.S. Open starts in three weeks, so from this weekend I’ll be collecting entries for that.
