It's here... The best week of the golfing calendar has arrived, who will win? Will it be Rory, Tiger, Big Phil, DJ...
The par-3 was won by Matt Wallace - will he create history and be the first player to win both? Who knows, but it’s a great event with a great field.

Charity Shield and Union Fourball Qualifier Usually the first weekend on the full course means the scores are pretty average as the members struggle going from fairway mats to grass, but this weekend the scores were low. Winning overall with a nett 58, a new pairing of Mark Spendler and Dan Sheard, great score guys. In second place with 60 nett, were Ian Kilburn and Ian Ellis (the Fly), I heard that the best putter in the club lived up to his name on Saturday holing putts from everywhere. Third place beating Sam Wilcock and Carlton Whiteley on the back-nine were Steve (best nine handicappers in the club) Leather and Kim walker. The top three scores qualify for the union fourball which is held in August at Crosland Heath GC. Well done to all the qualifiers. |

Ball fittings This week I did my first ball fit with a member, this turned out to be very interesting and I’m sure some of you will understand most of the figures in the table attached. The member has used Srixon Soft Feel golf balls for the last couple of years, I recommended him to try three other balls - TaylorMade Project S, Srixon AD333 and a Titleist Tru Soft. We hit three tee shots with each ball selecting the best shot from the three, to be fair the first tee-shot he hit with the soft feel I thought there was no chance of improvement but I was proved totally wrong. The Titleist ball was the best it created 4mph more ball speed, less backspin of the face (2000-2500rpm is where we need to be with the driver) 15 yards more carry and total distance. Wow what a result, if you’re not sure if your using the right ball maybe you need to book in for a ball fitting.

[* END *] [* END *][* END *] A driver is a powerful beast, sometimes too powerful if a hole has a hazard within range. In this scenario, you have a plethero of options to choose from, but there is one that is often overlooked. |
Picture the scene You're stood on a par-4 tee box and there’s a water hazard 240 yards away. What do you do? Many of you will reach for your longest iron on auto-pilot, however a custom-fitted fairway wood might just be the perfect solution; getting you further down the hole and closer to the green. | |
|
Why is this often overlooked? A lot of golfers don't have confidence in hitting their fairway wood because, quite simply, they don't use it enough. But with technology to help you hit them better - such as a Tungsten weight in PING's G410 fairway wood that increases forgiveness - it's time you gave them another go. |
Custom fitting is key We're delighted to see so many of you come to us for a custom fit when you're after a new driver or set of irons, but why does it stop there? A custom fitting is so important in ensuring you get the most from any new purchase, whether that's a driver, fairway wood or putter. |
