Wild Card selections announced USA On Tuesday evening, Jim Furyk the American captain announced his first three picks. They were quite simple picks, firstly Bryson DeChambeau who has won the last two weeks in the FedExCup, secondly Phil Mickelson great experience in the Ryder Cup and a tough competitor and thirdly, Tiger Woods can’t really say much about him apart from he’s the best modern-day player in the game. Phil and Tiger have played quite a few Ryder Cups but not won too many which hopefully will be an omen for Team Europe. Europe This afternoon, Thomas Bjorn the European Team captain made his four selections maybe a couple that I personally wasn’t expecting. I expected Poulter to be a pick, great enthusiasm, drive and passion for this format hopefully the postman can deliver again, Henrik Stenson was another I thought would be chosen with the team fielding five rookies we need experience and I’m sure the Iceman will step up to the plate. Now, Casey and Sergio I’m not sure but hope Thomas has made the correct decision both great players and sure they will get fired up for the event. Two years ago, Paul Casey didn’t want to join our tour, I find it disappointing a player of his stature didn’t want to represent Europe in the Ryder Cup and for that reason I wouldn’t have selected him. As for Sergio, over the last few months his game has not been up to scratch and eight missed cuts out of eleven is a massive concern but Thomas sees him as a major player within the team and again hopefully he is right we will all find out in a few weeks. |
