Competition news

Extension Trophy

The scoring this weekend was exceptional, the conditions with a strong breeze all weekend I thought personally that a score maybe 3/4 under par would be a winning number, but as usual I was proved wrong. Tom Ruecroft winning with a nett 62, a fantastic score and his hard work is paying off. He was closely followed by our Club President and pupil of mine Andrew Snare with a 63 only one shot off, we have made significant changes in Andrew’s golf swing early season and finally it’s come together.

Well done.

Junior section

The junior section is going from strength to strength and over the last few weeks. The section has dominated the Junior Halifax Huddersfield junior order of merit events with Alex Croft winning at Crosland Heath 63 nett, Jamie Baker winning at Crows Nest Park 62 nett and Meltham 59 nett and George Harris winning at West end 64 nett, also finishing with a couple of strong second places Issac Murray.

This is fantastic for both the junior section and the club itself, hopefully you as members will welcome them all when they start playing more of the club competitions and if someone is short of a good winter partner I’m sure I can sort at a price!

Clarks Brewery Am-Am

On Friday 14th September we are holding our final Am-Am of the season, cost £40 per team of FOUR including Bacon Sandwich with Tea/Coffee and a pint per person after play.

Tour news

The art of persistence

The FedExCup Playoffs get underway this Thursday at the Ridgewood Country Club in New Jersey - although Rory McIlroy has already confirmed he won’t be taking part. The world no. 7 has taken a few weeks off in order to recharge the batteries after a disappointing showing at the PGA Championship earlier this month.

Justin Rose, who is currently fourth in the FedExCup standings, leads the British charge and will be aiming to pip Dustin Johnson to the number one spot. That being said, recent PGA Championship and U.S. Open winner Brooks Koepka is in fine form and could be the man to beat in this year's grand finale.

Closer to home, there was a feel-good story over the weekend as Paul Waring, on his 200th attempt, finally won on the European Tour. It wasn’t easy, but he managed to hold his nerve in a play-off against South African Thomas Aiken to win the Nordea Masters. It’s a great lesson for all of us in the art of persistence and determination when it comes to golf; if you keep on working on your game, it will eventually pay off.
