Pro's Competititon

This weekend the Pro’s comp was a Fourball Betterball Stableford with both players to score on all Par-3’s.

The winners were father and son duo Dave Webster and Adam Webster with a great score of 57 points, in the 1st Division, Matt Whitehead and Kim Walker came first with a score of 53 points beating Stuart Horner and Dave Leather on the back 9. 2nd Division winners were another Father and son combination Steve Farrar and Carl Farrar with a score of 54 points beating Trevor Armitage and John Newsome on the back 9.

Open Events

From this weekend, you can enter teams for the Clarks Brewery Am-Am which will be played on Friday 14th September. The cost will be £40 per team and includes Bacon Sandwich with Tea/Coffee and a free pint from the sponsors after play.

All tee times booked have to be paid for at the same time, members will have booking priority for the first week and then I will email out to past entrants and other clubs.

Hallmark for Georgia

It was a great week for British golf, as Georgia Hall won her first Major title with a two-shot victory at the Women’s Ricoh British Open at Royal Lytham and St Annes.

The 22-year-old dropped just three shots throughout the whole tournament, with her putting in particular being absolutely exceptional. Hall, who was in Sunday’s final group of the same tournament last year, had her father on the bag which will make this victory even more special for the young talent.

Over on the PGA Tour, new world number two Justin Thomas warmed up for his defence of the PGA Championship by winning the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational after a final-round 69. The British contingent can take heart from a decent showing in Ohio, too - Rory McIlroy and Ian Poulter both started the final round just three shots off the lead, before fading away.

McIlroy will be hoping he can put together four rounds of solid golf at Bellerive to give him his first Major win since 2014, which happened to be the PGA Championship...

Groovy

When tour pros are playing in big events, like the PGA Championship this week, they’ll always have relatively new wedges in their bag to maximise their spin, because worn wedges mean less control.

Why do grooves matter?
The grooves are the sole contact point between your ball and the club, imparting backspin to help lift the ball into the air. R&D testing has revealed that after 125 rounds, wedges spin 2,000rpm less than wedges with new grooves and consequently roll 14 feet further on landing - which is huge.

What causes wear?
All grooves will wear slowly over time due to a number of factors, including gradual wear from play, but golf's equipment manufacturers work hard to limit this.

Need to upgrade?
Grooves are particularly important on wedges, where pinpoint control is crucial.

If yours are looking worn like on the first image above, why not consider the TaylorMade Milled Grind wedge (above), which has ZTP grooves.
